When Nuclear Medicine training is 24 months or greater, ABNM allows for a minimum of 6 weeks of time away from training for purposes of parental, caregiver, and medical leave at least once during training, without exhausting all other allowed time away from training and without extending training.
When Nuclear Medicine training is less than 24 months, the average length of leave should not exceed 0.5 weeks per month of training without extending training.
ABNM allows all new parents, including birthing and non-birthing parents, adoptive/foster parents, and surrogates to take parental leave.
If leave exceeds these limits, as permitted, or required by State or Federal regulations, the program director must have a plan approved by the ABNM to compensate for the lost educational time.
